I am an Earth System Scientist and biogeochemical modeller fascinated by the ways our planet regulates itself. My research focuses on understanding the dynamics of the Earth system and how interactions between marine ecosystems, sediments, and climate regulate Earth’s carbon and nutrient cycles across timescales ranging from decades to millions of years.
My research combines Earth system modelling, marine biogeochemistry, and sediment diagenesis to address two closely connected questions: how marine ecosystems regulate the long-term storage of carbon and recycling of nutrients in marine sediments, and how carbon-cycle feedbacks have shaped the dynamics of past climate change and mass extinctions. By combining observations, machine learning, and numerical models, I aim to improve our understanding of Earth’s long-term climate resilience and the consequences of ongoing anthropogenic climate change.
I am currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Cluster of Excellence “The Ocean Floor – Earth’s Uncharted Interface”, a joint research initiative of the University of Bremen and the University of Oldenburg.
